DESCRIPTION

God of War is a series of video games developed by Santa Monica Studios that chronicles the adventures of Kratos, first battling the gods of Greek mythology, then against creatures from Norse culture. Released in 2005, the series currently has 7 games all available on PlayStation home consoles. The latest soberly titled God of War was released in 2018 for PS4. In 2022, the title is rolling out for the first time on Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), before offering a new episode later in 2022 for PS5 and PS4 consoles: God of War Ragnarök.

God of War is a third-person adventure game rated PEGI 18 and only playable in single player. Violence, fights, bloodshed, vulgar dialogues will accompany you throughout your game.

Why play God of War?

In God of War, you follow the adventures of Kratos, this Greek mythological hero, who took revenge on the Greek gods in previous games. In this episode, Kratos chose to live in the world of men and went into exile in the Nordic countries where the cold and the desert landscapes are his daily life. But he did not go into exile alone. His son Atreus accompanies him. He must protect him, teach him everything he knows so that he can become a powerful and courageous warrior. Atreus will do anything to earn his father's respect and will prove very useful in battle with his bow and arrow.

Although God of War's map is very large and exploration is a big part of it, it's not really an open-world game. The game has a main quest and many side quests. Players will also be able to tackle puzzles and riddles, to be solved using the magic ax and the strength of Kratos among others. Allow several hours to complete the game.

God of War contrasts with the Beat'em all style of the previous opuses and therefore has a gameplay closer to the RPG than the previous editions. The player will be able to collect resources, rummage through secret chests in search of items and materials to improve weapons and protective armor. Kratos and Atreus will also be able to take advantage of the powers granted by runes and talismans during battles

In terms of combat, Kratos' power is quite impressive and violent. We find the epic and brutal fights that made the reputation of the previous episodes. Thanks to the legendary axe, Leviathan, Kratos inflicts a lot of damage on monsters and legendary creatures that stand in his way. And Atreus isn't just there for the storyline, he has a vital role to play in the fights thanks to his skill at archery and in advancing the puzzles, thanks to his knowledge of the runes. Note that as the game progresses, the skills of the heroes will multiply, offering a wider choice of possible actions.

And for the graphics, be it the cutscenes or the playable sequences, they are breathtaking. The Nordic universe made of snow, ice and desolate lands is impressively realistic and beautiful. The effects of shadow and light sublimate the immaculate landscapes, which will soon be the site of bloody battles. The artistic direction sublimates this scenario oscillating between beauty, brutality, emotion and humor (thanks to the dialogues and the personality of the characters). And the music composed by Bear McCreary adds another spectacular and immersive touch to this game.

What's new in the latest version of God of War?

The port of God of War on PC does not bring any additional quests, nor any additional extension, compared to the version on PS4.

During the year 2022, Santa Monica Studios is preparing a new edition stamped God of War Ragnarök, following this Nordic opus.

PlayStation players will still be able to enjoy the console version of 2018. God of War is a PC video game that requires a rather muscular hardware and hardware configuration. You need a machine running Windows 10 or 11 in 64-bit architecture, an Intel i5 or Ryzen 3 processor at least, 8 GB of RAM and 70 GB of available storage space.
